Pro Bono graphic design
Our students are sometimes asked to do graphic design, web design and illustration
for non-profit community groups and other organizations.
Middleton Applied Media & Communication Arts students have a challenging and demanding course of studies to complete in
addition to any outside work we might consider doing.
We also know from experience that students and outside agencies who work collaboratively
We carefully assess each request for graphic design work on a case by case basis. Pro bono design projects are then offered to selected students, who work in a designer - client relationship with the non-profit group. Our criteria include:
- Is the scope of work clearly defined in the request
- Is there an expectation of the time required by the outside agency to complete the project
- Is the request from a non-profit organization (we want to avoid the perception of competing with the private sector)
- If the project from a for-profit group, is it possible to coordinate this as a work term component during the month of May
- Is this a learning opportunity for the student(s)
We do not assign pro bono design work as class projects, as the students are already managing a heavy course load. If you represent a non-profit group and you are interested in pro bono design work, please contact Terri Vernon at terri.vernon@nscc.ca
If you represent a business or non-profit group and you are interested in offering a work placement to an Applied Arts student during work term, for the month of May, please contact Terri Vernon at terri.vernon@nscc.ca
A team of Graphic Design faculty and the Department Chair for the School of Applied
Arts and New Media will assess requests for design work on a case-by-case basis.
